MRT remixed!

103892251_41a188e3a2_o.jpg (JPEG Image, 1280x893 pixels) It had to happen after London, New York, Hong Kong... thanks to a hard-working blogger, we now have our own remixed transport map here and here. See what happens when Samba Gwen meets Hard Since Gene.

bleah school starts tomorrow. I just saw a pretty inspiring video, about what happens when an autistic boy is allowed to play on his school's basketball team. Warm fuzzy feelings all round.

Forever not young

you know you're old when your 20-year-old friends hear Alphaville's Forever Young and go, "That's the old version of that OC song.''

They've never heard of Eurythymics or Annie Lennox (and probably not Belinda Carlise either). Tsk Tsk.

The girls took a day trip up to Daylesford, spa country, where we jumped from hot pool to hotter jacuzzi to salt pool. Repeat till wrinkled and blissful. Ahhh.

Still trying to get used to the fact that I am in Australia, and can't call Joe up to pick me from the MRT station. There's an incredible amount of housework to be done but the weather is nice and cool, perfect air-con weather. For instance, there are spiderwebs outside and inside the car.

I decided to stop some bits from rusting and bought some fish oil - it is really made from fish - as it was the cheapest anti-rust spray. Note to self, the deodorised version costs twice as much ($7) but is probably worth it unless you really really like the smell of fish.

I also created a flickr album for siem reap, check out the sidebar.

Anyone remember the belledujour, the london call girl who blogged? Anyhow, this is Elyse Sewell's blog and she is famous as a contestant who was voted out of some reality show like America's Top Model, and comes across as someone beautiful, bitchy and smart.

happy valentines

I wasn't going to post a lurve related post, but these are too good to pass up.
- Mr brown's latest article on today, about how his suitor is smart and gives me lots of gifts ... but he uses Brylcreem and is not very romantic; sometimes I am given no choice
Really well written commentary on the state of things.

- for all star wars geeks who have a date, great subversive cards with lines like what I really need is a droid who understands the binary language... of love

before I post more cambodia pictures, here's a brief run-down on what I did today from 6am. Five of us took part in a car treasure hunt, organised by the gahmen on total defense. Yes, our team had a malaysian (who actually read up on the quiz), a leftist, a guy who has been aboard for the last ten years and johann, who actually qualifies as a local celebrity, one of the treasure hunt items, and semi-ignorant me.

example q and a: who built the sri mariamman temple?
my guess: some guy named pillay? Only because I hazily recall people called pillay building many important things and after a bad joke about pillays of society, it turns out I was half right. Narayan Pillay in fact.

Unfortunately, that question didn't come out and we didn't win (even after scoring 6 goals in 2 minutes for one of the tasks, borrowing old currency from my dad, getting friends to send us pictures of things we had to produce, like SQ tickets). I've figured out the secret - having two teams!!! The winners were a double team, and it makes sense - double the brain power and sharing of info.

And if this rally has taught me anything else, it's that you can rely on friends and family not to blink when you ask them weird questions. Also other qualities like being kiasu, strategic queuing and the internet.

It has been extremely stressful, somewhat fun and now I am very tired.

Angkor fantastic

Joe's attempt at a John McDermott. He is now known as Mr Handsome, thanks to a cheeky street vendor.

I never knew Siem Reap was such a fantastic place - the fruit shakes, 75 cent beers, the 90min massages, and of course angkor itself. It is very hard to take a bad photo at the angkor temples, however you do need to BYOM (bring your own monk) if you want to get the classic shot. But it is very hard to take a picture without other tourists - the big 3 temples tend to be packed unless you wake up at 5am and get there at sunrise.

I've never heard anything good about cambodian cooking, but make no mistake, it is truly awesome. We stuffed our faces, eating up to 10 dishes for 8 people. A must-try: the amok, which can range from a mild coconut curry to a wet coconut stir-fry. And the ginger chicken, which is amazingly tasty with their fluffy white rice. Ahhhhh, am drooling again.
