I spotted this
http://www.boingboing.net/2008/01/31/filial-piety-letting.html
and it brought back memories. My parents used to take me there as a kid. haw par villa was this theme park on the cheap, so no rides, just a bunch of statutes enacting ancient chinese stories and various religious beliefs. The scariest was the 18? chambers of hell. I kept my eyes closed for most of it so can't be sure of the number. Guess I didn't learn very much. Anyhow, it was scenes of the wicked being punished, so put in boiling oil, limbs being torn apart, you get the picture. Definitely not for kids, but i guess it was a different generation. I remember they had creepy half crab half human statutes, must be to represent the sea kingdom. I don't remember this filial piety one, and I was probably too young to have a laugh at it.

They closed it down (low admissions) and tried revamping it, removing the scarier statutes and putting in a dragon ride but the buzz died down after a few years and I'm not sure if it is still open now, but they chucked the scarier statutes after the revamp.

Anyone else out there with memories of haw par villa? Please share.
