It started as a quiet civil wedding at the registry to get the paperwork so that we can buy a flat, and now it is dawning on me that keeping it small is going to be hard. You can't have a wedding without some family, and you can't invite family and not serve some food, and if you only have family there they will drive you crazy so you need some friends for support...

Already, mum is talking about making fruitcake for the cake (which will be good cos I haven't had her unhealthy fruitcake with butter and eggs and whisky for ages), my long-time gal pal of 19 years (I am godmother to her 3 year old) has volunteered madly to be wedding planner, despite my insistence, we have to keep it small. But I feel like such a cad saying no to a flower girl, and so I suspect the same thing is going to play out repeatedly.

I don't even want to think about the guest list.

But enough about me. A big welcome to the world to Kai David Wee, age 1 day.

This has been a terrible week.
1) house got broken into, laptop was stolen. Nothing else was taken, which is good.
2) mom is worried and flies over. For those who know, my relationship with her has been complicated in the past year and we have "letting go of apron strings'' issues to resolve. Am determined to be positive, but hearing that your mom is arriving in less than 24 hours is a stressful experience.
3) She brings my old laptop over and it was working fine until 4pm today, then blue screen of death. My attempts to revive it are unsuccessful. Planning to hand it over to an IT buddy here to see what he can do.
4) I am naturally attracted to technology and geeky things but I really really hate computers right now. And the fact that I should back up my data more often.
